It’s important to be clear about how you want your lawn to perform once your lawn is laid, and importantly how much time you are planning to spend maintaining your lawn. We have three different turf options for you to consider. Regardless of your situation one of our turf options will suit your home. Please visit the buyer’s guide page for more information.
If you are still not sure? No problem, call us and we’ll happily talk you through it.
In Tasmania, the best time of year to lay new turf is spring and/or Autum, although it can be laid all year round. A lawn laid in warmer months of the year develops and establishes in a shorter time frame. Turf laid in the middle of winter will take longer to establish and will be slower to send roots into the soil.
Visit our measure my lawn page and there is a measuring tool available there to assist you with the measuring process. It is advisable to add up to 10% to your order to ensure you are covered.
1 roll of turf weighs around 10kgs, although the weight varies with moisture content.

Refer to our How do I go about laying my new lawn article. If you’ve got further questions from there, feel free to give us a call.
We recommend that your soil be approximately 20mm below existing driveways and pathways so when your turf is laid it will be roughly level as the turf does tend to go down a bit over time.
Once your new lawn’s root system is well established mowing can start. This can be checked by gently pulling at the turf to test the anchorage. Once the anchorage is firm and there is no movement in the turf, mowing can commence. Remember to follow the 1/3 rule and that is to never remove any more than 1/3 of the height of grass in any one mowing.
Enough water to soak it so the water penetrates through the new turf, including the soil backing. After this, we recommend watering your new lawn multiple times a day (between 2-4) for the first 7-10 days, then gradually reducing the frequency to daily, then to every other day, then eventually 1-2 heavy waterings per week (normal watering practices).
Sand is what we prefer to use. It increases the drainage, its easy to work with, dog urine drains away better, it’s readily available and its cost effective.
No, not really. You will be disappointed with the outcome. Your area will need to be prepared properly. Visit at our prepare my lawn page for more information.

Turf is a living plant and needs to be installed as soon as possible after it is delivered. However, as a rule, we suggest laying your new turf within 24 hours of it being cut at our farm. This will reduce the likelihood of the turf drying out & burning on the pallet. This timing does vary depending on the time of year.
